The White Papal Mitre

This kind of mitre is (strictly speaking) only worn by the Pope when he died.

Tessuto rigido e brillante, generalmente di seta e cordonato, con una trama di seta alternata a una laminetta di oro fino o di argento fino, qualche tipo di lama era anche fatto con lama e filo oro o argento.

Da lama = laminato.

Tessuto, simile alla flanella, ottenuto con lana di lama con armatura o batavia o liscia o a spina o operata, accotonata al diritto e poco cimata. L'animale che fornisce questo pelo è un camelide (lama glama) dalle proporzioni di un cervo, con pelame soffice, lungo e lanoso, che vive dalle Ande cilene sino alla Terra del Fuoco in un habitat naturale sopra i 4000 m. Questo pelo può essere di quattro colori: bianco, marrone bruciato, grigio e nero. All'esterno il pelo è folto e ordinario, mentre il sottopelo è lucido e con grandi proprietà termiche. Il suo peso standard oscilla tra 300 e 450 g/mq. Si usa questa stoffa specialmente per confezionare giacche. Il tessuto è leggero, brillante, ma non morbidissimo. In genere vengono filate le fibre dei lama giovani entro il primo anno di vita.

Dal quetchua llama passato tale quale nello spagnolo e quindi nell'inglese.

Tessuto operato broccato in cui la trama è - in tutto o in gran parte - di oro fino o argento fino.

The Original Biretta was not Collapsible!

After Xavier Barbier de Montault the "real" or original Roman biretta is not foldable/collapsible!

Why?

To visualize have a look at the following sketch:

A collapsibel/foldable biretta is not comfortable to wear and doesn't looks elegant.

1. You have open triangles over the ears, the forehead and the occipital.

2. You have pressure sores on 4 sides.

3. If the biretta is made of uncoated cardboard inside, it is very susceptible to rain.

The Pope's Pileolus

Pileolus (soli deo, zucchetto) worn by the pope,

The pope's pileolus is made of white silk with moiré-effect,

inside lined with very thin chamois leather to assure a better hold and, around the brim inside, a ribbon of white velvet.

The Barett of the Kirchenschweizer I

The task of a "Kirchenschweizer" (usher, verger, staff-bearer?) is, during the liturgy and in the church building, to ensure order and silence. During the service the "Kirchenschweizer" with his festive attire (usually a red robe, a long black staff with a round carving at the top and a red hat with a black ribbon and a black pompon on the top), helps everyone to find a seat, escort the entry and the recession and organizes the dignified reception of Holy Communion.

"Vergers arrive early and assist with setting up the Cathedral. The Verger can be found moving furniture to its proper place, making sure the books for the Clergy and Readers are ready to go, working with the Altar Guild to ensure enough bread and wine are supplied, making sure all the Acolyte positions are filled as well as anything else that needs to be done before the service to make sure the liturgy runs smoothly."

"Today's vergers are laypersons who serve the church in a ministry of welcome. Often the visitor will see the verger in a simple cassock moving about the church preparing for worship.
